Sharing the Wealth: Fostering Teacher Participation on Instructional Resource Websites

Making use of multiple examples, this session provides insights into the value that can be found by teachers who draw from and contribute to teacher-driven instructional resource sites. Based on interviews with teachers, their perceptions of these types of sites helped to identify assets and limitations of specific features regarding usability and relevancy for professional development. We explore factors that shape willingness or reluctance to contribute content, as well as the need to create a social community supporting teacher membership. Finally, we discuss website design features that encourage active teacher participation, including contribution of content.
