Educators are seeking ways to engage students in the modern classroom and are increasingly turning to games as a method for doing so. This session will explore ways that digital game-based learning can be used to increase student motivation and engagement in the classroom. Research suggests there are specific game features that both encourage motivation and align with established theories of motivation and instructional design. Likewise, there are qualities that have been proven to discourage motivation. This session will discuss types of motivation as well as provide an overview of game features that encourage it.
