Daryl Boeckers leads by example with technology in the world language classroom. He understands why, how and when to implement technology in order to best enhance a lesson or unit. Daryl’s classroom experiences range from 7th grade to graduate students in his career as an educator since 2001. Daryl has experience teaching Spanish 1, Spanish 2 Hybrid and Spanish 4 College in the Schools (concurrent enrollment through UMN). He currently teaches in the College of Education at the University of Minnesota preparing future language teachers to effectively integrate technologies into their curricula. Exemplary curriculum design work created by Daryl was recognized by the Minnesota Council on the Teaching of Languages and Cultures when he was presented the Percy Fearing Award for Language Curriculum Development. Boeckers also was recognized by his teaching peers with the Emma Birkmaier Outstanding World Language Educator Award for having a significant impact on the language teaching profession.
He reads, studies, writes, publishes and conferences about the effect technology has on teaching and learning world languages. His research interests include assessment, supporting special education students in the world language classroom, differentiated instruction and hybrid teaching & learning. Grants funding his work have facilitated digital professional development opportunities targeting world language teachers in rural schools of Minnesota and collaborative efforts to differentiate instruction in a Level 1 Spanish class. Attendees of Daryl’s conference sessions and workshops have noted them as pragmatic, purposeful and engaging. Evaluations return with high marks due to being practical, manageable and accessible.
